The area for potential cluster development will be R&D cooperation concerning possibilities that result from the necessity of managing post-industrial areas around the Brown Coal Mine in Bełchatów. The activities would concentrate, among others, on finding innovative solutions in regard of not only materials but also construction technologies.

The potential cluster will incorporate about 20 companies directly dedicated to the construction sector e.g. building materials producers based on a raw materials and synthetic gypsum; structural members producers; brickyards, cement plants, concrete-mixing works; contractors from the construction sector and companies specialized in building materials transport.

• good international practice on clustering
• a number of services for the construction sector
• a welath of other information and communication tools (forums, etc.)
The first service will be launced in the summer of 2008 and will relate to a jobboard explicitly for the construction sector in Greece. The service will be announced during an event to be held in automn 2008 on Crete.

Foro de Innovación / Industrialización del sector de la construcción (Innovation Forum for the Industrialization of the Construction Sector) Spain
Description:
Since 2007, The Basque Government, together with a working group composed by 31 organisations, is embarked in the creation of the so called Innovation Forum, for the industrialization of the construction sector in the Basque Country region. This Forum is planned to move towards a Cluster Association concept in the near future and become an adequate tool to create participative contexts for all the Construction Sector agents, in which innovative initiatives aimed at improving the competitiveness of the sector are generated, developed and assumed by the companies and organisations in that sector. Competitive surveillance of the sector will be the strategic area to concentrate on in the early stages.

Construction in Health Care (Finland)

The Existing Cluster is participoating together a national FinnWell program funded by TEKES (Finnish funding agency for technology and innovation) . The finnwell is Healthcare technology programme 2004 - 2009. FinnWell is one of the most extensive technology programmes of Tekes. The total value of the programme is € 150 million euros.

SLOVENSKI GRADBENI GROZD-GIZ CONSTRUCTION CLUSTER OF SLOVENIA

Establishment:
The Construction Cluster of Slovenia was build up by industry stakeholders of the construction sector in Slovenia in 2004 as a not-for-profit business interest association. In recent years the cluster has focused on innovation and international RTD cooperation with active involvement in strategic activities of the European construction sector, e. g European Construction Technology Platform and Energy Efficient Buildings European Initiative just to mention some. As a secretariat of the Slovenian Construction Technology Platform (SICTP) the cluster initiated the establishment of the SICTP Development Font (SICTP DF) to support the private financing and involvement of the industry stakeholders in the implementation of the national RTD agenda.
Focus areas for RTD, innovation and business cooperation:
New and renewed technologies (advanced materials and composites, road construction technologies, smart building materials, intelligent structures, new optimised construction technologies, prefabrication and automation, sustainable construction processes, intensified use of ICT in construction …).
Sustainable building (rational use of energy and renewables in building, prefabricated elements for building renovation, LCC and LCA in buildings, certification of low energy and passive houses, low energy and passive buildings – new components and certification, intelligent buildings – including safety of handicapped and elderly…).
Protection of the environment (building waste management, ecoremediation in built environment, neutralization of harmful substances in building materials…).
Heritage preservation (identification of current state of heritage and planning of retrofitting priorities, consequence based approach to heritage preservation, advanced application of tradition materials and low-intrusive retrofitting techniques, energy efficiency in heritage building…).
